The Runner Stumbles

By: Milan Stitt

Directed by: Kay M. Roth

Performances: October 28, 29, 30(m), November, 3, 4, 5

The Runner Stumbles is a spellbinding drama based on an actual murder trial in the early 1900s in Michigan. Played partially in flashbacks, the tragedy of a Catholic priest accused of murdering a nun, is also a story of relationships, of denial and of acceptance.

A young nun in remote Northern Michigan has been murdered. Father Rivard, who had previously been banished to the small parish, is accused of the crime. While the trial unfolds, Rivard's story reveals a tragic string of events that pit human passions against the forces of tradition and strict morality. As circumstances force Sister Rita to move into the rectory, her attempts to bring life to the dull, provincial parish stir long-hidden feelings in Rivard and his parishioners, leading to an explosive revelation and an unexpected sacrifice.
